Hair Dye & Highlights During Pregnancy

In this brief tutorial, you will learn more about the conditions and techniques you can use to dye your hair during pregnancy.

Instructions:

Greetings. I’m Maryam Ebrahimpour. I’m an expert hairstylist and instructor. Today I’m here with a tutorial on working with hair formulas. This tutorial is somehow different from my previous tutorials since today I want to talk to you mainly about hair dye for pregnant women and how to dye your hair if you’re pregnant.

Most doctors are against hair dye for a woman during pregnancy because it could be dangerous to the fetus. Since the fetus is in its initial stages during the first three months of the pregnancy, and the chemical material in hair formula can be absorbed by the skin and then enter the bloodstream this way, it could be detrimental to the fetus’ health and growth. We have a few methods that pregnant women can use to dye their hair. First, it’s best if you dye your hair after the first three months of pregnancy and preferably after the sixth month.

If you absolutely have to dye your hair during the first three months of pregnancy, you can perform the process using weak oxidant solutions. The dye you use shouldn’t contain Ammonia. This is usually stated on the packaging. You should use 0.5 oxidant solutions and it’s even better to use dye material that does not require oxidant and are instead water soluble. Some dye catalogs have an “extra” category that contains information about more potent solutions provided by that brand which you can use to dye your hair.

If you’re not absolutely forced to dye your hair during the first three months,
Then you can wait and perform an Ombre, Sombre or highlights during the next months. Keep in mind that the material should not touch the scalp so if you want to dye your roots you can use new techniques such as no-light dye. As I said before, if you absolutely have to use dye material, it’s much better if you use zero-ammonia water-soluble products. The air conditioning and air ventilation in the room where the dye is performed are also important because the smell of these materials could also be harmful to the fetus and mother.

To sum up, remember to use a material that does not include Ammonia. Use colors that are water soluble such as watercolors. You can also use any color from the “extra” category with an oxidant potency of 0.5. After the first three months have passed, and especially during the last three months of pregnancy, you can use normal dye as usual without problems. You can also use Ombre, Sombre, or color melting techniques from the initial stages of pregnancy until the end.

I hope this tutorial has been useful to you. Until next time, goodbye.
