Greetings. I am Niloofar Asghari. I'll be talking about a chignondesign here. Please stay with us and I hope you enjoy this tutorial. In this video, I will try to explain the different methods of designing chignon styles.

Separate the hair into two parts from the middle which means we should start somewhere above the ears. Separate the hair into two parts from here and brush the hair completely. You should tie the hair in the middle of the head. Meaning you should find the line separating the head into two parts between the ears and the hairline in the back of the neck. If the hair is too short and you need extra hair to work with, you can use a prosthetic. However, if the hair is long enough, you should use natural hair.

Start teasing the hair. Teasing the hair to create a hair prosthetic is different from teasing the hair in other cases. To create a prosthetic using natural hair, you tease the hair to create more volume. To do this, start at the end of the hair layer and brush the hair to the root. This way you add volume to the hair and create a firm prosthetic. Apply styling spray to the hair while working and separate thin layers. If the hair is long but the volume of the hair is still not good enough, you can use a small prosthetic under the hair and use the natural hair on top of the prosthetic after teasing it. Otherwise, with a hair volume similar to what you see here, a synthetic hair prosthetic is not needed.

Apply enough styling spray. Pick a hairnet and attach a hairpin to the base of the hair layer. We put the hair in the back inside the hairnet to use as a prosthetic and attached it firmly with hairpins. Now let’s work on the top of the head. Now we have to work on the rectangular layer of hair in the front, which always starts, at the line drawn from the two arches of the eyebrows. Separate the hair from this point to the back of the head. Therefore, you should separate the layer in the front starting at the arch of the eyebrows and reaching to the back of the head. Attach a hairpin to hold the layer and do the same for the other side of the face. Separate the hair from the arch of the eyebrows to the back of the head. Attach a hairpin to hold the hair layer in place.

You can clearly see how the hair layers where separated here on the two sides. Now we have separated the hair. Our hair separation consists of the part in the front on the top of the head to the end of the crown, the prosthetic in the back, and the two layers of hair on the two sides of the head. Now let’s start teasing the hair layers. Take a thin layer from the top, brush it upward, and then tease the hair a few centimeters from the root. Apply a little styling spray and put it aside. Separate the next layer and tease it a bit more. You should brush the hair upwards so you can add more volume with teasing. To have a nice style, you should tease the hair more the closer you get to the prosthetic.

You should always brush the hair layer first and then tease it. Brushing is crucial in styling your chignon. Let’s hold the whole layer in our hand and use sticks to hold the layer. Now use your two fingers to hold the hair layer and use the carbon brush to brush the hair. The lines you create on the hair should be very neat and in order. The correct technique to create lines on the hair is to hold the top of the layer with your fingers and use the other hand to order the rest of the layer downward. Pull the hair a little up with your fingertips and style it before applying styling spray. Work on the root first and use it as a way to hold the hair up. How much you pull this line of hair up depends on the style of the chignon, and what the client wants.

How bold and neat you make these lines can reflect your professional expertise in this field of work. Hold the hair with hairpins and apply styling spray. When you want to style the lines, you can use these hairpins to hold the hair and style it and you do not need to curl the hair first at all. Apply styling spray as you move on after each step. There is also another technique, which is being used recently where you go through the same process but at the end press the lines a little with a hair iron and there is literally no difference between the two techniques. Let’s fix the hair layers using hairpins and let’s not touch the line we created too much. We should tease the remainder of the layer and continue towards the prosthetic. Now let’s work on the front. You can do the split section is zigzags or a straight line which depends on what you prefer. Let’s tease the hair diagonally.

Continue teasing the hair until the end of the layers and tease the hair close to the roots for a few centimeters. This is synthetic hair and so it is hard to tease it properly, but with this technique applied to natural hair, you will be able to tease the hair pretty well. For the rectangle layer of hair in the front, hold the hair in your hand, pull the hair back a little, and start brushing. This way we can make sure there is no frizz when you want to create your lines on the hair. Hold the layer in your right hand and start twisting. Hold the twisted hair in your hand and then fix it with a hairpin. Now take the layer on the side, hold it in your hand and twist it to the same direction you did for the layer on the top. Now let’s create the lines. You can create the lines with your desired space from one another.

After creating the lines in the front, we can fix them and separate a layer of hair from the back to form into a knot. Brush the hair layer thoroughly. Before starting to brush the hair, I hold the hair layer with my hand from the base to prevent pulling the rest of the hair down and ruining the design. If you notice there’s some frizz on the hair, you can apply some styling spray to fix that. Smooth the layer with your brush and cover the surface of the hair prosthetic with the hair. I want to create deep lines on this layer to compliment the lines I created in the front. This is the layer I told you about, which we need for our knot. Let’s attach a hair clip at the top of it. Tease it a little from below and start making the layer thinner. Apply hair spray layer by layer. You should work on the layer for a while and give it time to get the thin layer you need.

Apply more styling spray and when you are sure the layer is dry, work on it with your hair iron with a moderate temperature to make it thinner and dry. Remove the hairclip, twist the hair gently and hold it with a hairpin. The lines I created on the hair here is on the remainder of this layer. Start teasing the hair at the root. Hold the hair towards the crown, brush the hair upward, and twist the hair like this. Hold it with a hairpin and start creating the lines on the layer. The number of lines you form on the hair depends on your preference. I didn’t leave any layer of hair hang on the sides of the face because I’m working on a model, but for your client, you should make sure to leave a few lines to hang on the sides of the face because the chignon styles most of the hair towards the back. For those who have round faces, pulling all the hair back makes the face look even more round and that way you cannot satisfy the client even if your chignon is very beautiful. You can form the lines anyways you like using only your hands. I fixed the layer using a hairpin and now brush the rest of the hair. Separate a part for a knot and put it aside. Brush the rest of the layer, widen it and put it on the side of the prosthetic where it is still uncovered. Take the rest of the layer underneath the prosthetic and start creating lines on the layer. Do the same thing for this layer as you did on the other side. Straighten it, apply styling spray and start making the layer thin. Apply the styling spray step by step.

Apply some styling spray and massage the layer with your fingers. You can even blow on the hair to make it dry faster. Continue like before and at the end, dry the layer a little with a hair iron. Remove the hairclip and twist the hair the same way you did on the other side. We have finished styling this chignon. I hope you have enjoyed this video.
