Greetings. I am Ramisa Mirzai. I am a hair restoration and hair dye expert and instructor. Today I want to talk about dos and don’ts of hair Keratin.

It has been years since Keratin, products were first introduced to the public and these days there are many different brands of Keratin available in the market. What most people know about Keratin is that it is a product, which can restore and straighten the hair at the same time. However, since Keratin molecules are big, they cannot penetrate the hair structure, and can only restore and strengthen the surface of the hair and is mainly known as a good straightening product.

The first Keratin products that were introduced to the market produced a lot of gas, smell and emitted Formaldehyde, which can cause cancer both for the client and the makeup artist. These problems were solved with time and new products with less smell and gas were introduced. Formaldehyde was removed and replaced with Nanomaterial. The best available Keratin product in the market are products with Formaldehyde below two percent, no quarantine, and very low gas and smell.

Quarantine refers to the two to three nights that the product should remain on the client’s hair, which can cause restrictions for the client and prevent them from getting their hair wet. However, we were mainly talking about introducing Keratin as a restoration and straightening product. I have heard many times that a person refers to another by saying a hair Keratin procedure has made his or her hair look better or another person’s hair worse off. What can be the cause of these different results. If we assume that the same makeup artist has performed the process on both clients using the same technique and same product,
We can only assume type of hair or the degree of damage to the hair was different, to begin with.

We can, therefore, assume that the most factors for a hair Keratin procedure are recognizing the hair and its degree of damage and state. Keratin products are not suitable for hair with more than fifty percent damage. Another factor we have to consider is certain types of diseases that could affect the client or using certain types of drugs, which can prevent a satisfactory result from a hair Keratin process. Using Keratin products during the monthly cycle in women can have a bad result. During the last few years, it has become common for people to recommend buying keratin products from the market and use them at home. While this is, in reality, a bad decision because as I said before it is very important to recognize the hair, the degree of damage, type of product you should use, and the tools you use to apply the product and maintain the hair.

The absence of each of these factors can have bad results and you may get less than half of what you might get from a professionally administered procedure. In the best-case scenario, after a hair Keratin procedure, you will experience sixty to eighty percent hair straightening effect and a gentle shine and smoothing effect for hair with less than fifty percent damage. This will help keep the hair healthy and avoid having to go through professional brushing sessions. If you avoid blow-drying your hair, you can keep the hair healthy and smooth for a longer period.

If your hair is damaged above fifty percent, it’s important to go through two sessions of professional moisturizing procedures before referring to hair Keratin treatment for restoration and hair straightening. To maintain your hair after a hair Keratin process, avoid using shampoo containing sodium sulfate. Use suitable hair masks and conditioners. Use proper lubrication when going to swimming pools or coming to contact with seawater, since the salt and anti-bacterial products in pool water can reduce the durability and effects of the Keratin product. Avoid using hair products with powerful chemicals such as decoloring products and other products with high levels of ammonia. Remember that you must refer to your hair expert every six to ten months to refresh the process.
